Exhibition : LEE Tae-soo, YOON Wee-dong / moo;yong (無用)

How is art useful? Flowers and pebbles of beauty present no use in our lives. Yet, can it embrace any meaning to it? Art has never been essential to survival, but we have always entertained art in some form, such as painting or dancing. Unless one makes living through art, art may not be an essential part of life, but it has always been part of our life.

Falling autumn leaves, fading tides, silly jokes, refreshing nap, and stupidly sitting pebbles. They may seem vain, but still contain epiphanies of eternity. We crave for joy. Flooded by daily life, our worned-out mind seeks for comfort in colors of autumn leaves and sounds of waves in seashells. In the end, what heals us is the useless ones. That, we believe, is the very essence of art. Art, indeed, belongs to the people, not just educated or professional. All arts may be vain. but it presents its own meaning to our life.

Thereby, Theo is proud to present two artists, who touch our soul through rock.

LEE Tae-soo, uses everyday objects such as glass, rock, or rebar. Giant concrete frame supported by thin glass. Seemingly going against the law of physics, his art portraits his mind by creating suspense and unidentified threat. LEE Tae-soo questions and challenges current materialistic molding technique. The cognitive dissonance of his art awakes us to keenly observe the world.

From portraits to landscapes, YOON Wee-dong, uses mirror, glass, and rock to expand his mind beyond canvas. His work embraces and acknowledges the Circle of life, including ours. The “Circulation,” represented by rock and sand, is infinite and cosmic, as we all awe. Through “The life of rock”, YOON captures our very own circle of life.

monologue 30 / 2018 / Acrylic, Resin, Sand / 112.5 × 194.5 cm
Rocks of two artists. What is in its own “futility” is our very mind and epiphany. Upon contemplating the very essence of LEE’s rock, we appreciate the value of “futility” to salvage ourselves. And, that leads back to the “Circulation,” where we can find our own path. Theo presents the beautiful minds of Lee and Yoon about “Uselessness” and the very beauty of it.
